Natural Gas Trucks Just Keep Rolling Along
A new report from Navigant Research shows that commercial natural gas vehicles (NGVs) will become increasingly common between now and 2024. The study shows that America’s abundant supply of natural gas, when coupled with ever-more-stringent fuel economy standards, is making this fuel an attractive alternative to diesel. Within 10 years, the study says, more than 4 million NGVs will be in operation both domestically and abroad. Commercial freight haulers will make up a significant portion of these vehicles.
The biggest obstacle to widespread adoption of natural gas remains the lack of refueling stations. But this problem will become less severe in the next few years, as transportation firms team up with local retailers to create the necessary facilities.
Fourth Quarter of 2014 Was a Good One for Drivers
Class VIII truck orders totaled 44,060 for the month of December alone last year. This caps off a total of 380,200 orders for class VIII vehicles for all of 2014, which represents a 42% increase over 2013. The fourth quarter of the year was especially robust. It saw 130,900 units ordered across the country. Vehicle classes five through seven also enjoyed strong sales figures for 2014, a solid sign that the trucking industry’s recovery is picking up steam. This is certainly welcome trucking industry news!
Truckers Bringing Vietnam Veterans Memorial to Communities across U.S.
The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial fund (VVMF) have joined forces to take a 250-foot-long model of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. to communities across the country. Known as the “Wall That Heals,” this exhibit will enable Vietnam vets who are unable to visit the actual monument to experience its presence in their local communities.
