One of the biggest challenges of LTL freight trucking is how to bill for miles. Can your truck ELD help you?
Yes – if your trucking invoice software is connected to your truck ELD.
Trucking Invoicing Software for LTL Freight Trucking
Why do you haul freight?
Maybe you love your job, but let’s be honest. Truckers haul freight to get paid. Nobody’s doing it for free, are they?
So having a stable and efficient, easy-to-use invoicing program is vital for any trucking business.
We know plenty of truckers who collect all their data manually— exactly recording their miles at state borders, upon pick-ups, and deliveries—and use those numbers for all the reports and taxes they have to file.
Then… there are the rest of us. We try. We really do. But sometimes those state borders fly past us on the interstate, and we don’t write our miles down. So we guess.
It does make paying IFTA and IRP a little worrisome, but we’re making a good-faith effort, right?
(The IRS doesn’t care about good faith.)
The Correct Miles
When it comes to LTL freight trucking, the correct miles are critical. A shipper is not going to be happy paying for the miles for a different delivery. The mileages for each shipment have to be accurate.
So how do we record those for LTL freight trucking?
We use TruckingOffice PRO to figure it out.
When dispatching multiple loads, we use TruckingOffice PRO to create the dispatches and routing. Using the US government-approved maps through Trimble (formerly PC*Miler), the miles and routes are computed and sent to the TruckingOffice ELD app. The driver has the latest and best information that they need to make a timely delivery. When changes are made (let’s face it, they happen) then the new information is in the driver’s app immediately.
Here’s where your truck ELD reports come in. Because the ELD reports are integrated with TruckingOffice PRO’s invoicing program, those miles are automatically tracked and read to be billed. With TruckingOffice PRO’s bill of lading capture, an invoice can be produced as soon as all of the fuel charges and other expenses are added in.
TruckingOffice PRO vs. QuickBooks? The Truck ELD Wins
Sure, those meticulous truckers have everything they need for a bookkeeper or accountant to send out an invoice – eventually. With TruckingOffice PRO trucking software and TruckingOffice ELD, the truck ELD provides the exact numbers as soon as you need them – not when you get back to the office or your desk and email them. Using the truck ELD data, even LTL freight trucking invoices are accurate and ready when you need them. So, if you’re interested in LTL freight trucking, either as a big 18-wheeler or as a box truck or auto hauler, TruckingOffice is the software you need.
We like QuickBooks. Don’t get us wrong. We have an export feature to upload data into QuickBooks (to make the accountants happy) but if you’re using TruckingOffice PRO trucking software, you won’t need it. TruckingOffice PRO handles all the invoice management for your trucking company, including late pays and complicated LTL freight loads. Then the same data is used for IFTA and IRP. No double entries needed – unless you’re using Quick Books. 👍🏽
(Sadly, Quick Books doesn’t have a report for IRP or IFTA.)😩
