We know there are drivers who conveniently take their summer vacation whenever the CVSA Safety Check is scheduled. This month, we have the CVSA Brake Safety Week inspections scheduled for August 25-31.

Brake Safety is Highway Safety

TruckingOffice trucking management software has always included a maintenance component. Scheduling critical inspections and replacements has always been a part of our program. Keeping your rig in prime condition and complying with DOT regulations is critical for your business – and for the rest of us on the road.

If there’s anything that scares car drivers, it’s the view in their rearview mirror of a truck barreling down a hill behind them. We count on truckers to keep their rigs in good condition – especially their brakes.

Unfortunately, some truckers don’t take care of their rigs. Money’s tight in this economy and putting off some maintenance to buy fuel for the next load – it’s a tough choice. But putting money back into equipment isn’t optional. The investment in maintenance pays off when a rig stays on the road instead of requiring emergency services or causing an accident that raise insurance rates.

CVSA Inspections

So we have the inspections – not to stop responsible truckers, but to help truckers know when they need to take care of their rigs. These regulations might be seen as overreaching government interference in our businesses. But the fact is that with these brake safety week and other inspections, dangerous trucks that put people at risk are off the road.

According the CVSA website

Brake-related violations comprise the largest percentage of all out-of-service vehicle violations cited during roadside inspections. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s 2023 vehicle violation data, six out of the top 20 vehicle violations were brake related.

Along with the HOS restrictions and the implementation of the ELD requirement, US highways are safer now.

Now, if we could only get the brake-checking idiots who pull in front of us off the road…
