State Requirements Arizona IFTA Licensing
The International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) is an agreement between the United States and Canada that streamlines the process of reporting and disbursing fuel use taxes. Currently, 48 states in the U.S. and 10 Canadian provinces are participating members of the IFTA. Although the goal of the agreement is to simplify fuel tax reporting, many truckers find it difficult to understand the many rules and requirements involved. So, let’s take a look at some of the requirements for IFTA Arizona licensing and how you can meet deadlines and remain compliant.
The primary factor in determining whether you need an IFTA permit pertains to the type of vehicle you own. You will need a permit if you travel interstate with:
- A vehicle with two axles and a GVW or registered weight exceeding 26,000 pounds.
- Three or more axles regardless of weight, or used in combination when the weight of the combination exceeds 26,000 pounds.
How Do I Get My IFTA Stickers?
Your Arizona IFTA permit includes one license and a set of two IFTA decals for each qualified vehicle. Each qualified vehicle must carry a photocopy of the original license and display an IFTA decal on each side of the vehicle. In Arizona, if you travel without valid IFTA credentials, you are subject to a penalty, fine, or citation and are in violation of a class 2 misdemeanor.
